Dread Risks
Think Wax Trax. Think of the most awesome days of industrial music. When you hear Dread Risks, you’ll get the old-school, juicy, pounding, basslines and thick percussion sounds that are guaranteed to bring back the fondest of memories of one of electronic music’s greatest era. Though the songs are new, the feeling is the same. I can’t say enough good things about how this duo. I have no idea how they managed to nail the sound so precisely.
The guys, Eric and Kris, are about to start playing live music around Austin. I recommend you take a listen to their self-titled album. You’ll definitely want to feel the energy their music in a live setting. We’ll see you there.

We met through an ad in the Austin Chronicle back in 1999 and played in a metal band together here in town. After the end of that project, we randomly reunited at a neighborhood bar in 2017 and started writing music throughout 2018 which became the dread risks project.
2) How long have you been in Austin and how long have you played music?
K: Lifelong Austinite and been playing in bands since high school.
E: Been in Austin on and off since 1995 and been playing in bands since college.
3) Has the city of Austin had any influence in the style or direction of your music?
The culture and abundance of live music, both locally and with touring acts, has afforded us countless opportunities to digest various genres and approaches. It would be arrogant to think that this environment hasn’t affected us in some way, but it is challenging to define to be honest.
4) Do you perform live shows in Austin, and if so, what are your favorite venues?
Great timing on this question. We are finalizing the details for our debut performance at the end of June at Texas Mist. Other venues we would love to play include Mohawk, Come and Take It Live, Elysium, and Parish. We used to play in classic venues such as The Backroom, The Black Cat, Steamboat, Room 710, and Flamingo Cantina so we look forward to playing some new establishments.
5) Are there other bands in Austin you’d recommend to your fans?
Venustra, MVTANT, The Nimbus, Mr. Kitty, Chernobyl The Secret, Curse Mackey, SINE…the list could go on and on.
6) What musicians have most influenced you?
Justin Broadrick, Front 242, Katatonia, Mike Patton, Ministry, Venetian Snares…
7) What’s the best thing that has happened to your band?
Reconnecting with each other and sharing a common, yet undefined vision based on our scarily-similar influence set.
8) Any cringe-worthy moments the band has endured that you’re willing to divulge?
Underestimating the transition from studio to live has humbled us a bit. Perhaps not cringe- worthy…yet. Haha.
9) Is there anything you’d care to share or anything else you’d like to let us know about?
We are thankful for the support we’ve received in such a short amount of time and look forward to presenting our take on industrial music live.
