Barbie De Facto

Artist-Barbie-De-Facto

With Barbie De Facto in town, Austin’s electronic music scene has hit the trifecta of talent, artistry, and beauty. The vocals and music ooze Austin, and with every beat you feel closer and closer to downtown.

With her awesome voice (and tinge of a southern drawl), Barbie De Facto could probably give most popular singers a run for their money, but combined with her mad electronic music skills, she downright makes them seem like MoPac at 5pm. She’s the real deal and the whole package. Definitely download her tunes today.

“If I can’t appeal to your sanity, I will appeal to your vanity.” ~ Ms. De Facto

Q&A

1) Who are the members of your band and how did you meet?
I’m a solo artist. However, my producer is Tim Gerron and we write with a talented songwriter named Heath Tull. They are my band in essence and I could not be in better company.

2) How long have you been in Austin and how long have you played music?
I went to high school here, I am a drill team lady, and I’ve been singing since I was very little.

3) Has the city of Austin had any influence in the style or direction of your music?
I do have a bit of an accent sometimes when I sing certain words, but my aim to to influence the Austin sound with something people can dance to. I’m an expression enabler.

4) Do you perform live shows in Austin, and if so,what are your favorite venues?
I just had my debut performance and it was a sold out show at The Townsend. The sound is really great there and so is the atmosphere.

5) Are there other bands in Austin you’d recommend to your fans?
Black Heart SaintsThe NimbusAdoration DestroyedAtomic PomegranateKounter Mezhure, and Sally Allen

6) What musicians have most influenced you?
Sally Allen has taught me so much since I met her and I get better as an artist each time I’m around her.

7) What’s the best thing that has happened to your band?
My first show was sold out before we could create a Facebook event so we never had to for promotion. That’s the gift of hard work and networking.

8) Any cringe-worthy moments the band has endured that you’re willing to divulge?
Before working with Tim Gerron there were quite a few. It’s tricky to find consistent reliable people who are into what you are creating. With my debut show the projection art work would not play so I decided to perform without it. It turned out to be a blessing because it let everyone see and hear what I do with all of the house lights on as-is.

9) Is there anything you’d care to share or anything else you’d like to let us know about?
It’s on my heart to let my artist community know they if they want to actualize their dreams in a complete and exceptional way they can’t do it all alone and do need to draw from the local resources they have around them. Gerron Music and Space have been that resource for me.

10) Give us one fun fact.
I use to be a hired plant for corporate parties where my job was to teach people basic ballroom steps. I was also a go-go dancer in Miami.
