Mini Turbo

Artist-Mini-Turbo

Mini Turbo is an instrumental synthwave artist based in Austin, TX. If you fused Daft Punk with the soundtracks of video games made in the late 80’s and early 90’s you would get pretty close to the sound of Mini Turbo. Debut Album “Lasers Of Love” is a melody driven high energy fusion of synthwave, funk, and prog.

Q&A

1) Who are the members of your band and how did you meet?
Mini Turbo is a solo project by Clayton Stroup.

2) How long have you been in Austin and how long have you played music?
I’ve been a musician for about 20 years. I’m primarily a drummer, but I have picked up other instruments over the years. I’ve been in Austin since 2017.

3) Has the city of Austin had any influence in the style or direction of your music?
The abundance of great musicians in Austin alone has inspired and motivated me to put serious effort into my musical projects in the last few years. Mini Turbo would not have happened had I not moved here.

4) Do you perform live shows in Austin, and if so, what are your favorite venues?
Mini Turbo is brand new and hasn’t done any live shows. My performance outlet has taken the form of social media videos. Instagram and YouTube primarily.

5) Are there other bands in Austin you’d recommend to your fans?
Several. Just to list a few on the synth side: Primo, Saint Loretto, Dossey, Goonz, Kalimocho, and Europa Boys (shameless plug of another group I’m involved with).

6) What musicians have most influenced you?
For this project my biggest influences were Daft Punk, Carpenter Brut, and anyone who composed for Capcom and Sega games in the 90s.

7) What’s the best thing that has happened to your band?
Putting out my debut album “Lasers Of Love”” has been pretty rewarding for me.

8) Any cringe-worthy moments the band has endured that you’re willing to divulge?
Not yet, but I’m sure they’re coming.

9) Is there anything you’d care to share or anything else you’d like to let us know about?
I actually started creating synthwave music a little over 2 years ago for a video game that never ended up coming out. The tracks I made for that game were where I honed my process and got a feel for the genre. I’m bummed the game never came out, but I’m glad I put the work in either way.

10) Give us one fun fact.
I’m a reasonably capable musician, but I’m much better at Mario Karts.
